Big Dating Game Kiss Good-Bye
So long, New York. Buh-bye Brooklyn. But don’t cry too much; we’ll be just up the road a piece and we’d really like to stay friends.
Much Ado About Goop
People seem to be all atwitter over the Macromedia site design/markup changes, but when we tried to download a trial version of Contribute 2, we got a steaming pile of compost. Too bad for their product.
Amazonked
What's up with Amazon? We went to check on their spelling of the name of the creator of Little Nemo and searching crashed Firebird, and threw up an apology-we’re-working-on-it page for Mozilla and IE6.
Update: So we get back and the only diff is that IE6 (through which we are not signed in to Amazon) gets an annoying windowshade ad. Huh. Someone’s getting yelled at for this.
A Good Summary
The best blog entry we’ve seen so far on the blackout and what it was like for a period of time. Not our experience at all, but not an uncommon one. When we were walking across the Manhattan Bridge with a co-worker, an hour or so after leaving the office, there were people still sitting on the three subway trains that had been crossing when the lights went out.
So How Was It?
It was great. That forced time away from keyboard and mobile phone (thank you very much, Sprint, for being a really sucky network that went down faster than [insert lewd right hand of analogy here]) was quite nice. Dinner on the stoop with friends was perhaps the highlight. Walking the miles home from work with enjoyable coworker company was fine as well.
At Long Last
More than two years after the original conception and a more than a year after compiling our first list, we’ve assembled the final list of the contents of Camaro Rock, the fauxstalgia playlist that reminds us of an amalgamated late 1970s day, probably in the South (but not the Deep South) in August in high school before the fall sports practices have started but a while after the novelty of having wheels for the first time has worn off.
Changing Dwellings
We’re moving, in the real world, and soon. We’ve been in New York for 10 years now, and it’s time to go. We’ve even lived in the same apartment for 5 years, and that is longer than we have lived anywhere. Frankly, we wouldn’t mind at all if that stood as the record for a while. There are too many places in the world to live in any one of them for so long. Contact me if you need the new info, as we are reluctant to invite trouble by posting our home address and phone number in this (admittedly little-read) forum.
At Least Someone Stands Up
Somehow we missed yesterday’s Good Morning Silicon Valley (which here on the East Coast is Good Midday Silicon Valley, of course) in which the top story was that PacBell is not rolling over for the RIAA and its Shock and Awe assault of subpoenas on ISPs. We’re not justifying illegal file-sharing, but to paraphrase part of PacBell’s statement reprinted in GMSV, this would seem to be a case of abuse of the DMCA, and the courts need to be called in to set limits or at least to discuss what they are.
