Flying back from Florida, Song’s crew had to reboot the inflight entertainment system. Satisfyingly enough, there was Tux in his happy fatness smiling back at us from the seat back of the passenger in front. This on the heels of an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal (sorry, we don’t have a paid subscription so we can’t link to it —we read the print edition while visiting our grandparents) about consumer electronics manufacturers using OSes other than Windows for their products, as they’ve seen what happens when you become beholden to the GRB.

In other news about the return flight, we battered about our fellow passengers in a round of the music trivia game available on the in-flight entertainment console. Then again, the questions tended toward the easy for someone our age interested in music, such as a multiple choice about who wrote The Monkees’s “Daydream Believer”. Altogether enjoyable, except for the twitch in our left eye we got from reading the execrable grammar of the supplementary trivia displayed with the correct answers.

So it’s time for the final farewell to Manhattan (for now, at least), as we have taken a position at Yale in the Center for Language Study.

See ya, two-hour commute and accompanying monthly Metro-North train fare. Hello there, ten-minute hop, on a bicycle in nice weather.

Good-bye 10th floor. Greetings, basement.

Later, vast offerings of Manhattan culinary and retail establishments. Welcome, um, reduced range of consumption in New Haven.

OK, so not everything is a decided step up, but we’re really looking forward to being able to spend more time with the family and get plenty of work done. There’ll be a bit of a learning curve initially, as part of our job is System Administration, a newish field for us. However, we’re also really excited to bring some process improvement and improved programming practices to a group on the forefront of Yale’s curriculum and direction.

The practical side of this for you? Twofold:

  1. Our work email addresses will be invalid as of about the 13th of Feb. You should instead use other addresses, especially trip@triptronix.net if you have messages for our eyes only.
  2. We’ll be making the rounds, as it were, in NYC over the next 9 working days for lunch with folks so we can remember what you look like while away in the hinterlands. Hit us up with your free dates if you have interest.
